On the first weekend of October, eight young adults gathered with Charity Alive facilitators SCNs Luke Boiarski and Nancy Gerth at Nazareth, Kentucky, for visioning and planning for the future of Charity Alive. The make-up of the group covered the spectrum – from a founding member to one who has just joined with great enthusiasm. During one activity for visioning for the future, the group went to the roof of the Motherhouse to “see things from a different perspective”. One member commented, “Charity Alive is like the solar panels, something new built on something old and creating new energy.”
The group, indeed, created great energy and ideas for leadership, activities and inviting new members. They are excited to carry forth the charism of charity and the spirit of Catherine Spalding.
What a beautiful group! It takes faith hope love and courage to come together in a new way and envision a future.
You are a beacon to what needs to happen amid the current times. We desperately need young people to carry on the charism of Mother Catherine and feed the spirit of both SCNs and SCNAs. You are most insightful…..
Sister Luke, you are an Energizer Bunny! I am amazed at your enthusiasm, energy and imagination. Working with the young is keeping you young. Maybe some day you and your group will be able to join me on one of my island mission trips down to the island nation of St. Vincent and the Grenadines? Charity Alive? Indeed!

I love the metaphor you used, Sr. Rose Eleanor, of the Solar Panels and this group–full of new energy and glowing. A beautiful image.
MY DEAR SOLAR SISTERS AND BROTHERS, YOU SURELY CREATE ENERGY AND ARE PRECIOUS TO THE WHOLE COMMUNITY. KEEP GROWING; KEEP GLOWING.
New life, what a blessing! May that blessing continue to grow as you do.
The next time you are at Nazareth you need to look in the little courtyard between the church and the Motherhouse halls. In the corner closest to the elevator you will see the stump of a magnolia tree with two new shoots coming up. One reminds me of you, Charity Alive, and the other of the SCNA program. It is an absolute delight when you are here.
The joy that each of you show helps lift many spirits for sure. Thanks for continuing to spread Catherine and the SCN charism to those you come in contact with. It was great having you here this past weekend.
I am so proud of our young associates – CHARITY ALIVE. You give us hope in keeping our charism alive. Blessings on each of you.
You bring us HOPE. May the Charity Charism live on in you.
I heard about the spirit and energy of this young group of associates. Having read the fantastic quote inspired by visiting the rooftop of the Motherhouse, I as an old associate feel an inspired hope knowing that these young people are building a new energy from the old spirit that I have been privileged to be a part of.
I am cheering you on and look forward to meeting all of you!
Trudi Maish,SCNA
Wow! What a gathering!! I love your roof top experience!! Seeing you-all together, ready to find new ways to serve, is indeed a “roof top” experience for all of us! Big blessings on each of you!
I look forward to hearing more. Keep the Spirit and energy going. You are a great group and well loved by the SCN Community. Blessings to each of you. S Janet
