World AIDS Day in Surkhet, Nepal

World AIDs day was observed in Surkhet on Dec. 1, 2014 by the district health office and NGOs working in the field of health. The SCNs Navjyoti Centre also played an active role in organizing the rally. The main slogan was “Zero New HIV Infections, Zero Discrimination, Zero Aids Related Deaths.“ About 300 people participated in the rally with slogans, placards and banners. People marched through the market trying to give awareness about HIV and AIDs and its prevention. Nepal has about 45,000 HIV affected people. The main speakers, including HIV affected people and heads of district health offices spoke about the need of all stakeholders to work together, tackle the issue of AIDS, ensure that there are no more AIDS related deaths, and no more discrimination for affected persons.
