Navjyoti Center celebrated 109th International women’s day with the slogan of “Think equal, build smart, innovate for change” from March 2 to March 8 with various programs.

There were talks based on the present condition of women in Nepal and the new legal provisions for women. Women from several women’s groups participated in games and won prizes. 20 illiterate women from women’s groups received funds for livelihood program. They have ventured into various incomes generation activities. Finally, they have understood the importance of economic empowerment to reduce gender disparity. Navjyoti staff and women took part in various programs and meetings organized by social development ministry and Birendranagar Municipality.

The climax of the program was the rally and the gathering organized on March 8. Deputy Mayor Mohan Maya Dhakal led the rally. About 600 women from Navjyoti were present in their pink saris. Women from other organizations were also present. A public gathering was organized at the open stadium. Dal Rawal, minister of social development ministry was the chief guest. Women ministers, parliamentarians and deputy speaker as well as many dignitaries were present at the stage.

During the function, three women who have provided outstanding service in the field of empowerment of women were honored by District women’s right Defenders forum. Sister Rosita Kavilpurayidathil was one of them who was honored for her dedicated service in the area of children and women through Navjyoti Center, Surkhet.
