Volunteers in Belize

Sister Luke Boiarski has the following update from Belize City: “We arrived in Belize City on Sunday, Jan. 8, and were warmly welcomed at the airport by SCNAs Maggie and Abel Vargas, along with James Muschamp, our driver for the week. We were given a short orientation about the city. We delighted in a delicious Belizean meal that evening. Monday morning, we met the homeowners, the Welch family. Together Melissa and Steven have four children. We began to gather all building materials and start our project under the supervision of Hand in Hand project managers, Beto and Alphonso. Monday evening, we spent time with the Sisters at the SCN Center learning first hand about the Belizean culture and SCN ministries. Tuesday and Wednesday, Melissa and her family helped to mix concrete, measure and cut wood, build the floor, and start to build the frames of the walls as well as painting them. Tomorrow, we continue working on the house and visit Mayan Ruins in the afternoon. View more photos here.
