Virginia Bauer, SCN, formerly Sister Charles Francis Bauer, 87, died at Baptist Hospital East on October 17, 2010. She had been a Sister of Charity of Nazareth for 70 years.

Sister Virginia ministered in the apostolate of elementary and secondary education for thirty years in Tennessee, Kentucky, Massachusetts and Virginia. In Louisville, Ky., Sister taught at Most Blessed Sacrament School, Presentation Academy and Catherine Spalding College, now Spalding University.

Sister later worked in parish, social and health ministries in Virginia, Kentucky and Mississippi. Her last ministry was Appalachian Ministry of Presence in Greensburg, Ky., from 1996-2001.

Survivors include three sisters, Thelma Saphara of Jeffersonville, Ind.; Hazel Schadt and Margaret Baird; two brothers, George and Charles Bauer, all of Louisville, Ky.; and her religious community.
