Vincentian Academy wins state championship

The Vincentian Academy baseball team made history as it won
the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) State title with a 5-2 win over
Meyersdale!

The baseball team had never made the PIAA state playoffs, which are very difficult to qualify for as only 16 teams in the state make the Class A state tournament. Vincentian had to beat Union HS 11-1 in a PIAA qualifying
game to make the PIAA playoffs. Then VA won a 4-3 13 inning thriller at
Dubois Central Catholic to start the state run. The next game was another
extra inning win, this over Southern Fulton 4-3 in 8 innings. The state semi-finals saw VA win 2-0 setting up the state title
championship game at Penn State in front of a packed house and a state-wide TV
audience on June 17.
Congratulations to
Coach Paul Quarantillo and his staff and to all the players
on a 21-7 record and VA’s first State title in baseball.
