For about six weeks, Nazareth Campus has enjoyed the company of two Sisters from Vietnam. Theresa Nhu-Y Hoang and Mary Ngoc-Hoa Nguyen are temporarily living in the Motherhouse with the SCNs in order to practice conversational English and have an immersion experience with an English-speaking Congregation. The Sisters will leave Nazareth soon to attend school in Connecticut.
Earlier this week they were joined for Mass and dinner by four more members from their Community and also Father Anthony Ngo, of St. John Vianney Church in Louisville, who celebrated Liturgy (see photo). The Sisters are members of the Congregation of the Servants of Jesus, the High Priest.
The weeks spent at Nazareth have helped them prepare for their upcoming classes in theology and philosophy. Several SCNs have spent time with Sister Theresa and Sister Mary teaching English (and learning some Vietnamese) and theology, as well as enjoying dinners together, movies and road trips. Sister Theresa and Sister Mary volunteered in the thrift shop at Nazareth, helped with food service, and sang in the choir.
The interaction with the SCN Community at Nazareth has been exciting, fun and valuable for all. The SCNs said the Sisters added a lot of life and spirit to the Motherhouse with their cheerful attitude, their respect for elders and their beautiful view of life. The Vietnamese Sisters said the SCNs have been very warm, welcoming and hospitable.
