Update from Nepal as strike continues in Surkhet: SCNs, Navjyoti staff and the women groups joined the people of Surkhet expressing their solidarity. Indefinite strike enters eleventh day without any assurance from the government. The people’s forum along with the political parties have erected a sign board at the centre of the cross road stating “Intact Midwestern Province welcomes you” while the police with the guns in their hands looked on. As a day goes by more and more women have taken to street to support the movement for Intact Midwestern Province having its headquarter in Surkhet. They have refused to join the far Western Region which is the least developed of all regions in Nepal. Not able to attend school, the children are joining their parents for the strike. The strike is getting stricter with all the offices, schools, shops and transportation closed and the roads barricaded on several places. The movement has spread to other neighboring districts as well. We pray and hope that the government will make the decisions in favor of the demands of the people as early as possible.
