Students of empowerment training received certificates in June amidst a beautiful cultural program displayed by the 29 trainees. The women were selected from social groups of Dalit, economically underprivileged, victims of domestic violence, and single women.

During the six-month period, they attended awareness training on animation, child abuse, trafficking, health and sanitation, legal rights, leadership, gender equality, vegetable cultivation, herbal medicines and skill training like tailoring, knitting, fabric painting, and cooking.

Sister Rosita presided over the function, Devi Oli parliamentarian of Karnali province was the chief guest. Special guests were Bimala B.K. of Social development ministry, Jamuna Paudel of women and children’s development office, ward chairperson, Sister Philo Kottoor SCN provincial, and other guests were heads of local NGOs, representative of Municipality, media personnel, guardians of trainees as well as ex-trainees. About hundred people were present. Trainees presented reports of activities and its impact on their lives. They also performed dances, songs, and drama on child marriage leading towards domestic violence. All the speakers highly appreciated the training and stressed the effect of the training towards women’s empowerment. Through the program, many women who were victims of domestic violence have gained justice, self-confidence, and the skill to be self-reliant. Officials promised to extend their cooperation for the service provided by the Navjyoti Center in Surkhet.
