Nazareth Niwas, a new home for the SCNs at Lupungutu, Chaibasa, was inaugurated on Nov. 22, 2014, in the presence of many well-wishers, students, teachers, religious, and priests of the Chaibasa deanery. Rt. Rev. Felix Toppo, SJ, the Bishop of Jamshedpur blessed the house and Sister Basanti Lakra, SCN, provincial, cut the ribbon and Philomena Kottoor, SCN, vice provincial, broke a coconut in the Indian tradition before entering the house for the blessing.

Bishop Felix presided over the Eucharist with eight priests. In his homily, the Bishop said, “Like that of the early Christians in the Acts of the Apostles, with one heart and mind the Sisters lived in simplicity. Personally they own nothing but hold everything in common. Many young people were inspired to join religious life seeing the way the Sisters lived, prayed and worked together. From the very beginning, the SCN Sisters were among the people working for the welfare of all. The Christian faith should be firm like the person who built the house on a rock in the gospel. He prayed that the Sisters who live in the new house be a light to the people.“

Victoria Kujur, SCN, the acting principal of the St. Xavier’s Middle School welcomed the Bishop, priests, religious and the guests with a brief introduction to the origin of the SCN mission at Lupungutu. She recalled all those who have ministered and those who have gone to their eternal reward. She thanked the SCN leadership for their generous contribution and timely guidance to build this home and she thanked the local people for their cooperation.

Abha Beck, SCN, thanked the Bishop, SCN leadership and the invited guests, teachers, students, staff and the builder.

Mary Basanti Besra, SCN, thanked and felicitated the special guests, the builder and his family.

The students, teachers, and staff gave their full cooperation in preparing the place for the blessing. The Jesuit Candidates helped Suchita Kujur, SCN, with the choir and other arrangements for liturgy.

Eleven SCNs including Sangeeta Ayithamattam, SCN, vice president, Mary Elizabeth Miller, SCN, from the western province, and Soni Hembrom, SCN candidate, added to the joy of the SCNs Abha Beck, Mary Basanti Besra, Suchita Kujur and Victoria Kujur at Lupungutu on having a safe home to live in.
