Director of Ecological Sustainability Carolyn Cromer and Tonya Severin, SCN attended the annual conference for the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education in Pittsburgh. They joined students, professors, and sustainability professionals from universities and colleges across North America and Europe as they sought to learn more about how to help the SCNs carry out the mission to care for Earth. Sessions attended included information about large compost systems, how to maximize carbon offsets, how to measure greenhouse gas emissions, how to write a climate action plan, women’s empowerment, and using storage batteries to reduce peak energy demand. There was much stress on fulfilling the Sustainability Development Goals.
Food at the conference was plant-based and delicious. Exhibitors displayed all-electric landscaping equipment, laundry soap dispensers, new products from recycled plastic milk cartons, treeless paper, a variety of eco-friendly containers for food storage and much more.
