Graduation at Arunodaya, Patna
Written by Malini Manjoly, SCN
The ninth class of 22 young women graduated after completing a 10-month office management cum mid-level social workers training from Arunodaya, Patna, on April 17, 2016. The trainees received their certificate from the chief guest, Mrs. Sweety Seema Hembrom, a Catholic member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly.
The trainees presented a beautiful cultural and educative program for the teachers, parents and friends of the trainees, NGO and government representatives, the Chakkaram parish community and the SCNs. The trainees depicted the theme, ‘child labour, save girl child’ through a well choreographed group dance. They also presented a street play to respect and to care for the elderly parents.
Arunodya, (Sunrise) is a unit of the Chetnalaya, Rajgir society started in 2007 to prepare young women who are either school dropouts or who aspire to improve their lives through ongoing education and training. Many of the hundred and fifty three women who have completed their training are either working or doing ongoing studies such as nursing, hotel management, teacher training, graduation and post graduation. Two of them have joined the Candidacy program with the SCN Sisters.
Besides the office management and social workers’ training, the women receive inputs on environment, food and nutrition, herbal medicines, gender equality and justice, Indian Constitution, legal rights, spirituality and how to appreciate and reverence one’s own self and culture.
Teresa Madassery, SCN, and the other Sisters and staff of Arunodaya deserve to be congratulated for their ten-month hard work to transform these twenty-two empowered women to be a leaven in their own families and society.
