St. Martin de Porres Parish in Louisville, Ky., celebrated the Feast of St. Martin de Porres by honoring Dorothy Jackson, SCN, for her 17 years of service to the parish on Sunday, November 6, 2011.

Sister Dorothy had been a pastoral associate at the Church since 1994 until she retired this summer. The church community, and the new name, Martin de Porres, was founded in 1990. It was formed from St. Benedict, Holy Cross, and St. Charles Parishes. The leadership of the parishes spent over 2 1/2 years sharing ideas, praying together, and worshipping at each of the three sites. In 1995, the church went through a major renovation to restore facilities to meet the needs of the community. Sister Dot worked with committees as they implemented the goals in the strategic plan. She offered leadership and training sessions on church structure, and decision-making and helping the laity understand their role in church.
