Nazareth School in Chatra, celebrated Annual Sports Day 2014 with great ebullience on Dec. 13. The chief guest of the day was Mr. Amit Kumar, district commissioner of Chatra. The guests of honor were Mr. Zyed Ejaz Ahmad the principal of DAV school and Fr. Vijay Tete the parish priest of Chatra. They were welcomed from the school gate to the stage by the school band and were accompanied by the principals SCNs Anila Monippallikalayil, SCN, Mary Grace Xalxo, SCN and Rashmi Toppo, SCN . Mr. Kumar lit the torch and inaugurated the sports events. The district commissioner kept saying, “very good,” as the students did their march. He reiterated on the importance of sports in the all around development of students. He also exhorted the parents to give equal importance to the physical well being as well as academic education. Around 600 parents were gathered and were delighted to see their children’s performances.

“Sports and games build a healthy mind in a healthy body,” was the message spread by the athletes of Nazareth Convent High, Primary and Pre Schools, as Annual Sports Day celebrated the Dec. 22. The day began with a march. Chief guest Dr. Rev. Francis Swamy, in his message to the students, highlighted that the world renowned sports personalities are not created overnight but it was the result of their hard toil and tremendous effort from their school days. The colorful drills performed by the pre-school and students of Primary and High schools added to the festive mood of Christmas. 102 girls from High school presented the lazim for 20 minutes with traditional costume of Maharashtra. Each item was not just an entertainment for the spectators but it communicated the message of hard work, perseverance and confidence.
