It is difficult for sunlight to penetrate the narrow alleys of the Delhi slums in India. Life in one such slum, Seelampur, is neither easy nor healthy. The average family earns approximately $50 a month, primarily by salvaging copper from old electrical wires.
Inadequate housing, toilets, and bathing facilities, as well as poor ventilation, contribute to prevailing health problems such as anemia, tuberculosis, and asthma. Illiteracy, domestic violence, drug addiction, and unemployment are prevalent.
Many lives are brightened as hope takes root through an empowerment program, administered by the Sisters. The Sisters and staff address existing challenges through education, empowerment, guidance, a listening ear, and support. They work very hard administering workshops, skills training classes, and other programs to create systemic change. They are making a lasting impact for the future.
Will you join the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth as they reach out to those in need? Your gift will shine a much-needed light upon the lives of those who hunger and thirst for wholeness and purpose. Your support has the ability to positively affect generations yet to come. “… whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” Matthew 25:40
