A recent visit with eleven young women who are attending a six-month skills training program at Navjyoti in Lauki, Nepal, found them very punctual in coming to the center for the classes. Twice a year, Reema Tigga, SCN, the coordinator of the social outreach program, gathers young women, many of whom are illiterate, for the much needed training so that they may learn a skill to make a living.

An experienced tailor is hired for teaching the young women, and most of the learning materials are given without cost to the trainees. Within a span of one month, the young women are able to learn a lot and their confidence is boosted as they try their hands at making items for family members. Navjyoti has trained over fifty young women. Many of them are now self employed and able to add to their family’s income.
