The Sisters of Charity of Nazareth disaster relief ministry are working in West Point, Kentucky, located 25 minutes outside of Louisville, Kentucky. The area was hit hard by flooding after the Ohio and Salt Rivers reached historic flood levels. The Sisters are leading a team to clean, paint, and replace wallboard and flooring for uninsured homeowners.
The Sisters of Charity of Nazareth have a long tradition of responding in times of disasters. Some examples include flooding in Louisville, the yellow fever epidemic, flooding in India, a hurricane in Belize. Continuing in this spirit, the SCN Disaster Relief Program involves volunteers to offer spiritual and physical support to persons experiencing a disaster. They respond in the same spirit of Vincent de Paul with reverence for each person and witness to God’s presence in the midst of adversity. The Disaster Relief Program provides an opportunity to put faith into action.
