Several candidates made their First Commitment, on Sunday, Sept. 27, to the Sisters of Charity Associate program, including Karen Frank and Betsy Kammerdiener, both of Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga.
Ms. Frank is dedicated to the SCN mission and sees the importance in continuing the SCN legacy in her experience as an administrator at Memorial Hospital. She has been inspired and energized by the SCN ministries which has led her to desire to become and SCN Associate.
Ms. Kammerdiener has been familiar with the SCNs for many years because of her work as a chaplain. She feels that the Associate formation weekends have enabled her to be a person with a deeper commitment and is grateful to be able to carry on the work of the SCNs in Chattanooga.
Officials said, “The SCN Family includes an important group of lay people who make an extra commitment to make a real difference in the world. We call them SCN Associates. They are men and women of all faiths and backgrounds who commit to living out the SCN Mission in their own lives, to deepen their spirituality, to build community with other SCN Associates and SCNs and to reach out in compassionate service to others in the tradition of Vincent de Paul, Louise de Marillac and Catherine Spalding.”
There are 250 SCN Associates within the SCN Family, which includes Associates from Belize, India and Candidates in formation in Botswana.
