In 2018 Sisters at the Nazareth Motherhouse have been reaping the benefits of a high definition desktop video magnifier with text-to-speech capabilities. This allows Sisters with impaired vision to have printed text clearly read allowed to them.
Sister Peggy Vogelwede and Sister Rita Spalding meet regularly on Wednesdays to make their way through documents including General Assembly materials and stories from The Journey magazine.
“Before I could only look at the pictures and put The Journey magazine aside,” says Sister Peggy.
Now she is making her way through back issues. The current users hope others at Nazareth will put the machine to use as well by contacting the Motherhouse Coordinators if they are interested.
“There is no shortage of reading materials from the congregation, says Sister Rita. “This reading device is a big help.”
Happy to see the use of this technology for so many of our sisters whose eyesight is poor! Much needed…THANKS!!
Great use of technology1
Knowing how many of our Sisters have reading difficulties, I’m sure they will find this an invaluable resource. What an enrichment for them!
That is a great device for those you have problems reading. Wonderful!!!! Hope they take advantage of it.
What a wonderful resource for our sisters! So glad Sister Rita and Sister Mary are benefitting from this technology.
