Bringing down infant mortality rates

Screen Shot 2015-12-15 at 8.57.47 AMSamuhika Srimanthalu, a program for expectant mothers was held on the Dec. 1, 2015, in the Public Health Hospital Center, Musunuru-Mandal, Andhra Pradesh. The Sisters of Charity of Nazareth represented by the provincial of Bangalore, Sister Ann Palatty, Sister Ann Moyalan, Sister Josephine Arul, and Sister Prathima Kanapala, were special invitees. The purpose of this unique program is to bring down maternal and infant mortality rates to zero. Twenty-two pregnant women were honored during the last trimester of their pregnancy on this day.

The presence of government officials such as the Mandalam revenue officer and the medical officer of the government hospital of Musunuru, along with other health personnel, gave a boost to the women present.

Sister Ann, the chairperson of the Health Committee at Musunuru-Mandal, spoke about the importance of being healthy during pregnancy, both in body and mind.
