At the SCN House in Belize City last weekend, six young women gathered to take part in the Advent Retreat “Waiting in Hope.” These women came from Belmopan, San Lucas, Punta Gorda and Belize City. SCNs Higinia Bol, Maggie Cooper, Barbara Flores, Carlette Gentle, Nancy Gerth, Beverly Hoffman, and Chris Kunze facilitated the retreat.
The weekend provided the women with input on the topics of:
- Unpacking that which could prevent them from entering into to the weekend without distraction
- Ways to let go in order to embrace the waiting
- Resting in the stillness and empty space and recognizing gifts and hopes yet to be birthed
There was time for listening, journaling, silence, reflection, prayer, one-onone dialogue and group sharing.
As a way to celebrate, the group attended a performance by the Choral Society, of which Sister Carlette is a member. The weekend ended with a blessing where each woman received a clay bowl to symbolize the importance of creating time and space for God and attendance at Sunday Liturgy at St. Martin de Porres parish. And very appropriately, they rejoiced! The participants commented that they appreciated having time to reflect and valued being with the Sisters and other retreatants. They, and the Sisters, move ahead filled with love and hope for the future!
