Sister Swarupa Rani was invited as chief guest to the Xavier Social Service Center located at Bhiwadi in the state of Rajasthan on Sept. 8, 2018, on the occasion of the International Day of the Girl Child. Speaking at the event, Swarupa addressed the issues of gender inequality and discriminations faced by girl children in families and in the society.
She emphasized that society will experience transformation only through education and attitudinal changes in the mindset of people. Sister Swarupa urged the women and men present to treat boys and girls alike by granting equal education, diet, and medical assistance to them.
Accompanying Sister Swarupa, children from Asha Kiran performed a street play that highlighted problems faced by the girls and women at different stages. The children further went to different schools and performed the same street play saying that they have the power to challenge and change discrimination existing in the society.
Sisters at Asha Kiran in Dharuhera also assisted in the mobilization of funds for relief work in the flood-affected state of Kerala.
