Sister Helen attends Pope Francis’ Mass

When Pope Francis visited the United States last fall, Helen Blodgett, SCN, was among the crowd of thousands eager to see him. Sister Helen received a ticket to attend the Cathedral Mass in Philadelphia

(see photo of her memorabilia above). Although she was among the large crowd, several of her friends reported seeing her on television as she stood in a pew in the back of the church. “Sister, we saw you on TV!” she heard from many, including her own doctor. Sister Helen commuted by foot (5 miles total) to attend Mass that day. She said as she walked through the streets, it touched her heart deeply to see the peacefulness of the people. The excitement was contagious. “It was one of the most peaceful days for the entire city. There was not one event that required police. That speaks to the goodwill of the people. At the heart of everyone is goodness,” she said. Though it’s been several months since the Pope’s visit, Sister Helen hopes the feelings of peace and goodwill can continue. “It shouldn’t just be a one day event, it’s a framework for being peaceful people. Always be kind.”
