SCN Volunteer Belize Update

“These past few days, we would begin each day with prayer and reflection on the verandah of the Starfish Volunteer House in Belize City. After prayer, we are served a wonderful Belizean breakfast consisting of Johnny cakes, eggs, bacon, and fried Jacks prepared by Carol, our cook. Then we would travel 18 miles to a small village outside of Belize City to an area called Boom Barrel. It is there that we met Rosa Martinez and her little son, Demetrius, the new home owners. These last couple of years have been very difficult for Rosa. The bank will be auctioning off her house since her husband, who passed away in 2015 due to a brain infection, could not make the payments due to his illness. For the last three days we have hammered, sawed and painted in between down pours of rain. We got the foundation placed, walls painted ready to be raised ‘like an Amish Barn Raising.’ Rosa’s two younger sisters, Abigail and Carman, will also be living in the small 16’ x 16’ wooden planked home along with her. Keep us in prayer as we try to finish this house for a young, motivated and compassionate young women and the toddler, Demetrius.”
