The Sisters of Charity of Nazareth celebrated the beginnings of their Community on December 1st, 2008, Foundation Day, with a prayer service at St. Vincent Church. The prayer service included a reflection around the early days of the SCN Community and the many hardships the Sisters overcame. The service also touched upon how the Vincentian Sisters of Charity of Pittsburgh came to be founded and how our two Congregations are now one. As part of this prayer service, it was noted that the flag of Canada has been added the group of flags that represent the countries where SCNs are in ministry.
Each reading of the prayer service was followed by a moment of quiet reflection by the Sisters and Associates. Those in attendance were asked what the foremothers’ prayers may have been during the founding days, months and years.
The service concluded by focusing on community and mission in the dawn of the mystical age, as the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth and their ever expanding international Congregation, move into the future.
