SCN Community College in Dharan, Nepal

The 21st of April saw many young enthusiastic women entering the premises of Navjyoti Centre, Dharan, Nepal to participate in the Skills Training offered here. It was a dream comes true for the SCNs and the staff who labored hard to get this place ready for the beginning of a Community College. 

At the inaugural function held in the afternoon of 21st April, attended the SCNs, parishioners besides the trainees and staff, Fr. Goerge Kalangara SDB, the parish priest, spoke to the trainees about hard work, commitment and a technical mind that is needed to succeed. The director, Roselyn Karakattu, SCN, welcomed the trainees and explained the objectives of this job oriented program and her expectations from the trainees. She emphasized hard work, punctuality, discipline, respect for each other despite the various backgrounds from which the trainees have come, and said that all have equal opportunities to bloom in the garden of Navjyoti.

33 young women have been enrolled. Most of them come from migrant working communities and tribal communities bordering India who are also economically and socially disadvantaged groups.

The courses offered are English Language studies, Computer Application, Beauticians course, Tailoring and Fashion design. We are grateful that the SCN Ministry Fund has helped to make this dream come true in Dharan, Nepal.
