Nazareth Social Work Center – Sokho
Young women, like Sangeeta, learn skills, find employment and support themselves and their families through the Nazareth Social Work Center in Sokho, India. The Center works to empower women and rural communities through various skills training programs, such as detergent, incense and candle-making as well as tailoring. Tailoring has economically empowered women and girls.
The Center has helped form women’s groups in 25 villages. The women gather in groups to discuss issues affecting their lives and contribute a small sum of money to a common fund. The women take loans from it when the need arises to avoid the high interest rate from money lenders. Some of the groups have started community farming through their savings.
