Volunteers made quick work of demolition Monday as the conversion of a local house into a men’s shelter moves forward.

“We do mission work all over, domestically and abroad,” said Ellen Sprigg, associate director of the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth Lay Mission Volunteer Program. A few of that program’s volunteers were doing outdoor work at the home on Monday, including preparing a section of the property for a gazebo.

“Sisters have volunteered (at Bethany Haven) for many years,” Sprigg said, so when the volunteer program was approached about helping with the renovation, it was a welcomed opportunity.

“We’ve had to cancel so many of our missions and this is a mission right here at home,” Sprigg said. “We are thrilled to be able to help.”
