In a few days I will put my normal day-to-day life on pause as I head to India for three weeks. I know that I will miss my family dearly, every day that I am there — for every minute I am away — but, I am also looking forward to this opportunity to meet with, in person, our Sisters who live and work throughout India.

As the communications specialist to the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth, it is my job, to help better connect the Sisters with each other and with those in which they minister to. These days, that happens many times through new technological methods. My goal is to assist in implementing these communications tools across the entire SCN Congregation, including India.

These tools range from the simplest of things, such as basic internet connectivity, access to Congregational e-mails, keynote and video presentations, and the sharing of photo and video media. These tools also include today’s latest technologies; Skype and other video conferencing, blogging, webcasting, sharing through Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, and many times, the use of these services through mobile devices.

Our Sisters are in the “field,” working side-by-side with those in which they are serving. This is especially true in India, where the supply of water and electricity is hard to come by in some ministry sites, much less an internet connection. But, the connections are being made and the stories of those who are being helped are getting out, and they are being told by the Sisters, who are right there, in the “field.”

I just aim to help — to make these connections continue to exist and to strengthen the ability to get the stories of God’s good work out to the public.

My itinerary is set, though the details of my entire trip are not completely defined. I rather it be this way, as I want to experience everything as it comes. To experience a new country and a different culture in its truest form.

I will be visiting Delhi, Gurgaon, Ranchi, Mahuadanr, Gaya, Rajgir, Patna, Mokama, Bangalore and Trichy. My traveling companion is Malini Manjoly, SCN, the head of communications for the Eastern Province of the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth. I know I will be in good hands traveling with the Sisters, some of whom I have met already here at Nazareth, Ky., but many of which I look forward to meeting for the first time in India.

Please follow along with me as I journal my experiences and share some stories from the Sisters, here on this blog, as well as the other sites listed below.
