Commemorating the World Hospice and Palliative Care Day is an annual event at Pabalelong Hospice, Metsimotlhabe, Botswana, where Sisters Sunila and Vinaya are ministering. This year the event was held on Oct. 29, 2015. It was also an appreciation day as all the benefactors and collaborators also were invited. They are known as “Friends of the Hospice.” It was an opportunity for the management to express their appreciation and gratitude to their friends for their generosity. About 100 people including the staff were present at the occasion.
The staff entertained the visitors with variety of items such as the hospice theme song, a poem, and traditional dances. Sister Sunila presented the annual activity report and the financial report for the year 2014. Mrs. Setsego, one of patients who recovered at the hospice after a long stay of nine months and is back at home now, gave the testimony of her experience at the hospice during her stay. Mrs. Susan, whose father-in-law died at the hospice, also shared her experience. Both of them were very appreciative and commended on the loving compassionate care they received at the hospice. Their sharing was very touching and emotional that it brought tears into the eyes of those present.
Bishop Emeritus Boniface Setlalekgosi, in his address, thanked the Sisters and the staff for their dedicated service at the hospice and the impact it has made in the diocese and country. He specially commented on the team spirit that is outstanding among the hospice staff and management. The Sisters felt proud of the staff. Without their dedication and commitment Pabalelong would not have achieved the goal of giving the best care to the terminally ill. Thanks to all those who are partners in their ministry!
