On Wednesday, our volunteers went right to work, painting both the railing and trim on the house that was assigned to us by St. Bernard Project.

We were blessed that Sylvia, the homeowner and one of her sons stopped by to see the progress that has been made on her home. Sylvia burst into prayer and exclaimed, “I can’t believe it, I can’t wait to come back home. This is the house where my husband and I raised our four sons.”

When Katrina hit, she and her sons reluctantly evacuated to Alexandria, Louisiana, and remained there for seven years. She received some Road Home funds and did her best to monitor the repair of her home, driving 200 miles, several times a year to keep tabs on things.

Each trip ended in disappointment — time and time again, she found herself dealing with fraudulent contractors. Funds were running low, so she turned to St. Bernard Project.

We are so proud to be of service to her and her family.
