On Saturday, November 1, 2014, the Western Province Leadership Team gathered together 10 of the 18 vowed members under 60 for a leadership education day. The day opened with a prayer service that focused on community and a significant amount of time was given for personal sharing. Then, the governance and reporting system of the Congregation’s and Province’s canonical and civil entities were reviewed, including the role and responsibilities of the Central Leadership Team, Executive Committee, Extended Executive Committee, NLBI, Province Leadership Team, Western Province Board, and SCN Inc. Board. The various types of Congregational Ministries (owned and operated, separately incorporated, and endorsed) were explained and the activities of each ministry was described. The group then discussed ways in which they could prepare for leadership, with taking responsibility of one’s own ongoing education and ongoing formation being emphasized. The day ended with a viewing of Elizabeth Johnson’s acceptance speech of the LCWR Outstanding Leadership Award followed by dinner together.

Adeline Fehribach, SCN, Provincial will do a similar session with the four SCNs under 60 in Belize while she is there this month and then will gather the remaining four SCNs under 60 in Pittsburgh in January. The group who met on November 1 voiced a desire to have another leadership education day next year and suggested having all those under 60 come together for that session.
