On November 19th, 2016 the Belize community celebrated Garifuna Settlement
Day. We were honored to have Barbara Maynard, SCN, join us for the
celebrations. After the reenactment of the arrival of the Garinagu to the
shores of Belize, a parade was held through the streets and ended up at
St. Martins De Porres parish where Mass was held. The group took part in
the celebration of the Mass where the readings, songs, prayers and dances were
done in the traditional way of the Garinagu. After the Mass, the Sisters headed home to enjoy the traditional meal of the Garinagu, Hudut,
a meal of fish soup with coconut milk and a side of beaten plantains, followed by dessert of cassava pudding. The day was celebrated well and
enjoyed by all!
