Dear Friends,

The Hindu Festival Tihar / Dipawali has brought a special meaning this year in the life of Mr. Man Bahadur Khatri of Dailekh Dist, Nepal. After several years of his struggles and tireless attempts / affort from the part of the doctors of Sushma Koirala Memorial Hospital, he now has a new hope.

Thanking you for all the support and concern you have for our ministry in Surkhet.

Sr. Cecilia Simick SCN

Man Bahadur lived 30 years of his life with a severe facial disfiguaration after he was attacked by a wild bear. He went to many places and saw many people to get help, but all in vain. He would tie a band on his face to hide his deformity and was confined to his house and village.

One day he met Cecilia Simick, SCN, during a mobile health clinic in a village of Dailekh district. She sent Man to Kathmandu for a check-up hoping to have some luck this time. Doctors at Sushma Koirala Memorial Hospital in Sanku, Kathmandu took the challenge and did all their best to give him a new look.

Doctors operated on him, he stayed two months in the hospital. After that time he was called by the doctors and the prosthesis for his nose was fit to his face. It was several attempts on the part of the doctors to get him the right nose.

Man Bahadur has a new look. Now he is so happy to see his face in the mirror and is excited to tell his story while in the hospital in Kathmandu.

He came back from Kathmandu today [ Oct. 27, 2011 ] the day of a special festival in Nepal, Laxmi Puja. He is so happy and said, “I have received a special gift this year from God — my nose!”

Man Bahadur with his eldest son who was taking care of him in the hospital, came to Navjyoti Center to Thank the sisters for their help and support. Both father and son headed for their village in Dailekh District where his wife and relatives are eagerly waiting to see him with his new nose and his new look. The whole village is waiting to see him.

The prosthesis made for him still needs to be adjusted. He has to go back to the hospital for check-up after two months.
