Nazareth Mahila Samiti, Seelampur, Delhi Celebration of International Women’s Day

Nazareth Mahila Samiti, Seelampur, Delhi, concluded a week long activities of celebrating the International Women’s Day this year. Starting on the 8th of March, street plays were done; banners were tied at different lanes of the work area of Seelampur slum and invited the people to participate in the gathering of March 16th, in a public area. One whole lane was blocked with support of the people to put up a tent for the function. The international theme of ‘Gender Parity, Planet 50-50 was communicated all through a well organized cultural program by the women and children of Nazareth Mahila Samiti and of the area. Annie Namala of ‘Centre for Social Equity and Inclusion’ was the ‘Guest of honour’ along with other guests of the local schools and institutions, NGOs, Vidyajyoti theological College, SCNs Rita and Nirmala, municipal authorities, police etc. Women and children of Nazareth Mahila Samiti forgetting their social and family control over women fearlessly took part on the stage, in giving speeches, reciting poems, playing skits, dances, all depicting and honouring the goodness and power of women and their determination to struggle for their emancipation in life. Young women volunteered to look after the discipline of the function. The commitment of NMS to women and children was made still visible by this public function and it was an invitation for parents to empower women and allow girls to shine as 32 women received certificates for the skill training they completed this year.
