Two Pittsburgh sisters, Sister Helen Chervenak and Sister Cecilia Ann Fatula, were “jailed” for the Muscular Distrophy Association fund raiser, the MDA Lock-up. Police from the Allegheny County Sheriff’s office arrived at St Louise Convent with lights and siren yesterday June 10. The sisters were served warrants for their “arrest,” hand-cuffed and hauled down the road to a local hotel in the Sheriff’s van. There they appeared before the judge and were sentenced to jail. Fortunately, they raised over $2,300 “bail” from generous supporters and were released. Donations help MDA do research into neuromuscular diseases and provide medical equipment, clinic visits, support groups and a magical week of MDA Summer Camp for the families served by the Association.
