Beena Chirackal, SCN, shares this story from the SCN ministry at Asha Kiran, an orphanage in Dharuhera, India.
Dear Sisters and friends,
I am sending few pictures of a Mother’s Day event that we had with our children at Asha Kiran in Dharuhera, a school for young girls who are orphaned or who have been taken out of brothels and other hostile environments. It was a good day for most of the girls, but a very sad day for a few as they had no mothers to come. Still the girls sang and danced so well.
Prior to the cultural program we had a meeting with the women and we discussed the problems they face and their current needs. There was a long discussion about where they take the girls for holidays, who visits them, what they do and discuss in front of the girls and so on. Mothers were happy to learn about how well their daughter’s are learning, growing, and behaving here at Asha Kiran.
The girls gave flowers to their mothers and the mothers were in tears because they said this was the first time they felt honored in their life.
It was indeed a great day.
