In the village of Rajgir, India, the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth minister to children who have been affected by polio. In this video Sister Pat Worley connects with Soni, a girl whom she sponsors there. This is their first meeting.
Polio has been eradicated in much of the world. However, several years ago a polio epidemic occurred in the villages surrounding Rajgir. The Sisters provide housing, proper nutrition, medical and rehabilitation care, and an education to children who have been affected by polio here. Many of these children are very limited in their mobility because their limbs have been affected so severely. The goal is for these children to learn skills and gain self-confidence so that they can live their lives with dignity and a feeling of self-worth. Ninety-one children currently receive care at this ministry.
