Medical camp in Jajarkot

Navjyoti Mobile Health Center, Surkhet, reaches out to three districts in Nepal giving health care to the underprivileged who are living on the margins. This is through the financial support of a generous and compassionate American donor named Chris Fusser, administered by the Nepal Jesuit Society. These three districts are Surkhet, Dilekh and Jajarkot. At present, SCNs conduct 23 health clinics per month in these three districts. Most of these villages are far beyond the reach of any doctors and people are utterly poor.

This December Sisters conducted a health camp in a far remote area of Jajarkot District where the patients can reach from various remote villages. Chris Fusser, our donor, Rev. Bill Robins S.J., and Sister Lisa Perekkatt, SCN, from Kathmandu joined the Navjyoti health team along with two doctors from Jajarkot District hospital. 980 patients were examined and given medications. Conducting a health camp is very expensive, but Chris Fusser is in favor of conducting four camps a year in Jajarkot District excluding the regular health clinics there because of the remoteness of the place and poor financial condition of the people of those areas.

It takes a full day to reach the place by vehicle and the roads are very poor and stony. Sisters in Surkhet say, “In whatever may be the situation all of us and our health team feel great satisfaction and joy reaching out to the really needy people of these villages. A big thanks goes to our dear donor Chris without whose help we are unable to carry out this compassionate and meaningful mission.”
