maryzitahenkel-228cd114ebac812a82f51969e4153c6cMary Zita Henkel, SCN, 85, a native of St. Joseph, Tennessee, died at Nazareth Home, Louisville, on Thursday, June 16, 2016. She had been a Sister of Charity of Nazareth for 66 years.

Sister Mary Zita served in elementary and secondary education as both a teacher and a principal in Kentucky, Tennessee and Alabama for 37 years. Sister also served in health ministry in Alabama and Tennessee for 19 years. In retirement, Sister served in the Apostolate of Prayer.

Survivors include two brothers, Francis B. Henkel of Fair Oaks, California, and Joseph J. Henkel of Carmel, New York, and her religious community.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 21, 2016, in St. Vincent Church, Nazareth, Kentucky, at 10:30 a.m., followed by burial in Nazareth Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1:30-2:30 p.m. at Nazareth Home, Louisville, and after 4 p.m. in St. Vincent Church, Nazareth, Kentucky on Monday, June 20, 2016. There will be a Prayer Service in St. Vincent Church at 6:30 p.m. Monday evening.

Funeral Arrangements are being handled by Ratterman Funeral Home, 3800 Bardstown Road, Louisville, Kentucky. Memorials may be made to the Office of Congregational Advancement, P.O. Box 9, Nazareth, Ky. 40048.
