“Queen of Sweets”
Chances are you’ve heard of a ministry titled “Candy for Caring?” But did you know that Sister Margaret Regina Murphy operates a thriving candy-making production whose total profits are used to help feed, clothe, house, and provide medication for underserved people? The candy-making operation has been a full-time ministry for this retired Sister since 1996. Even though Sister Margaret’s candy sales earn thousands of dollars a year her humility prevents her from boasting of her accomplishments. One would think she made a few lollipops a week!
The candy menu was grown from Sister Margaret’s first candy, almond brittle, to a variety of fudge, turtles, bonbons, chocolate covered cherries, bourbon balls and seasonal chocolates for Christmas and Easter. Sister Margaret credits her her SCN Sisters, who volunteer by helping her succeed in the candy-making business. “I couldn’t do without them!” she said. Sister Margaret has never advertised, but the word has gotten around that she makes the best candy in town–and her prices are economical too. Sister Margaret experiences great joy in this ministry of serving God through helping the poor!
