Being rooted in the legacy of the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth is important to the mission of CHI Memorial in Chattanooga. As one way of maintaining this connection Judy Raley, SCN and Bob Scheri, Vice President of Mission Integration lead pilgrimages to Nazareth twice a year. Dr. David Foster from CHI St. Vincent, Little Rock joined the group from CHI Memorial on the September 11 – 12 pilgrimage. Participants from CHI St. Vincent and CHI St. Joseph, Lexington, which along with CHI Memorial are part of Catholic Health Initiatives East- Southeast Division will be invited to future pilgrimages. All these facilities share the heritage of the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth.
The pilgrimage is open to Executive Team members, Department Heads and Managers and associates who receive the Catherine Spalding Award for living the mission of CHI Memorial in the spirit of Catherine Spalding. The group visits the log cabin and church at St. Thomas, pray None with the monks at Gethsemane, and immerse themselves in the spirit of the Sisters on Nazareth campus. They learn the history of the Congregation by visiting the Heritage Hall, the Archives, Motherhouse and St. Vincent Church. They attend liturgy with the Sisters and share meals with them.
Participants leave with a deep appreciation of the legacy of the SCNs with renewed enthusiasm for sharing the experience with their team members.
Here are some comments from participants:
