On March 13th, Blessed Mother Teresa’s parish at Patparganj, Delhi, invited Rita Puthenkalam, SCN, to give the homily during the Sunday liturgy as they celebrated International Women’s Day. She began by appreciating the very encouraging, affirming and energizing parish atmosphere regarding women’s leadership in the parish coupled with the support and encouragement of the parish priests. While breaking the Word of God, she spoke on Jesus’ attitudes of recognition, respect, acceptance and tenderness towards women. She reiterated this by recounting several encounters of Jesus with women and how women were present at the crucial moments of Jesus. These moments include his passion and death, and how it was a woman who was commissioned to announce the resurrection to his male apostles. Sister Rita encouraged the parish community to use inclusive language in prayers and reading the Word of God. All appreciated her reflection.
