Members of the Women’s Liberation Movement and Chetna Bharti of Chatra jointly celebrated International Women’s Day at Jori on March 8, 2019. The women and men gathered at the Kali Temple grounds. While waiting they sang awareness songs. Joel Urumpil, SCN, held discussions with them.

With banners and placards, shouting slogans, the women processed through the main road for two kilometers to the government school grounds. After lighting the lamp, Sister Joel introduced the importance and purpose of the gathering.
Various women leaders spoke of their struggles, government apathy, and especially about sand mining and land grabbing sharks in their villages. A few of the men also sang awareness songs and spoke to the women giving them encouraging words.
The Gurkul children of Chetna Bharti entertained the audience with various cultural items and a Nukkad. The program ended on a happy note reciting the preamble of the Indian Constitutions, shouting slogans, and applying colors on one another. Around 1,500 women, men, adolescents, and children were present. It was a program of, by, and for the people.
