On the occasion of International World Indigenous Day on Aug. 9, 2020, Mahila Kalyan Kendra Lupungutu in Chaibasa conducted an awareness program about the challenges and difficulties faced by indigenous people.

This program was organized in Ichakuti Village under Chakradharpur Block. Considering the present situation and restrictions given by the government regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, only 50 participants from nine villages were invited including the head of the village.

Before the celebration villagers had planted 18 bamboo shoots in their respective nine community forests. The input sessions were based on the following themes: the tribal identity, culture, and traditions of various tribal communities belonging to Jharkhand, prevention and protection from COVID-19, and care of the earth and community forests.

The participants were encouraged to plant more trees in their own areas. The celebration concluded with giving each participant two papaya plants as gifts from the Lupungutu SCN community.
