During the Nepal flood in August 2014, four child centers of Navjyoti Center were partially damaged and one center was completely washed away with all the educational materials and furniture. Through the support donors, Chanabari child center was rebuilt in a new location provided by the forest committee. Local people supported the construction by providing free labor.
The new one room building with toilet was inaugurated on June 8, 2015, by Deepa Hamal, the district education officer of Surkhet. Dignitaries including those in charge of the district women development committee, representative of Birendranagar municipality, and local leaders were present for the occasion. All the speakers thanked Navjyoti for its efforts to provide basic education for children from the lower class as well as lower caste living in this area. Child club members performed a skit on social change and the need for education. All the arrangements were done by the child center coordinator and the local child center construction committee.
