The annual sports day of Nazareth Academy, Gaya began with the hoisting of the sports flag by the chief guest Dr. Farasat Hussain along with Sophia Joseph, SCN, principal of Nazareth Academy on Feb. 17, 2018. The ‘four houses’ did the march-past. The students from class VI to XI participated in full spirit and zeal in the various sports items, cultural events, colorful drills, and karate. The first three winners were given mementos. Parents were present in large numbers to cheer the students.
The chief guest in his speech said that having Nazareth Academy in Gaya is a blessing for the parents for it’s a renowned school to educate their children where life values are imbibed by the children. In appreciating the students he encouraged them for their good performances in various cultural and sports events. He also said that during his recent conversation with the Dalai Lama at Bodhgaya he asked him why we should have different religions in the world instead of having a religion of humanity? The Dalai Lama explained that various religions are like the many flowers in a garden which beautifies it with its various colors and textures. A most important religion is that which does not hurt anyone. When you share love and compassion it is bound to grow and multiply. He warned the children on the use of information technology through Google saying that though they get all the information on their finger-tips it is only a virtual world. Give importance to the real world in which we live and interact with one another.
Anne Marie Thayilchirayil, SCN, presented the winners’ trophy to the ‘greenhouse’. The first runner-up was the ‘red house’. It was continuously emphasized that winning is good but wholehearted participation shows the real spirit of sportsmanship.
All in all, it was a day of joy and satisfaction for all participants, parents, and teachers. The presence of SCNs Rena Simon Fernandes, Anila Monippallikalayil, Marianne Puthoor and Malini Manjoly added to the joy of the day.
