Health Ministry Meeting in Mokama

Eighteen Sisters involved in health ministries gathered for a two-day meeting on April 9, 2016 at Nazareth Convent, Mokama. Representatives of the hospitals and the health centers presented brief reports.

In the afternoon, the resource persons, SCNs Anjana Kunnath and Lilly Thomas began the training on life skills on adolescents. SCN Novices also attended the training. The main objective of the training was to increase the understanding and sensitivity towards menstrual hygiene and empower the trainees to better understand the concept of essential life skills – understanding self; thinking skills including critical and creative thinking, problem solving and decision making; methods of effective communication and coping skills which will help the adolescents to develop a healthy life style. Knowing oneself is important to develop a healthy self-esteem and a positive attitude towards life. Building up necessary life skills among the adolescents to help them better negotiate their life and life choices is a priority for the SCNs in Patna Province.

At the end of the training, the health ministry SCNs made plans for the future. They proposed to change the names of the health centers to ‘primary health care centre’ wherever no doctor is available. And in Bihar and Jharkhand, the ‘Clinical Establishments (Registration and Regulation) Act 2010’ is being enforced.
