Aside from fiscal contributions, the most immediate support that we each may offer in this time of tragedy after the devastating earthquake in Haiti, is as follows: Call the White House or the Department of Homeland Security/Janet Napolitano and demand that Temporary Protected Status (TPS) be granted immediately to Haitians who are in the U.S. TPS does not need legislative approval and the executive branch has the authority to grant this. It protects people from being deported to a ravaged region and it gives people a temporary working permit. Please call both hotlines when you take action: White House Comment Line: (202) 456-1111; Homeland Security Comment Line: (202) 282-8495
