April 30, 2018, was a landmark in the history of education in Chatra as Nazareth family came together to witness the golden jubilee year 2018-19 opening ceremony of Nazareth Vidya Niketan in Chatra, Jharkhand.

To mark this historic moment there was a cross-country cycle race by 50 students each from Nazareth Vidya Niketan High School (NVN) and Middle School and Nazareth School. Mr. Vijay Linda, one of the students of the first batch, Mrs. Shobha Devi, Mukhiya of Darha and Mr. Rakesh Kuma, ex-student, flagged off the race respectively.

Priya Kalapurayil, SCN, education coordinator ceremoniously hoisted the jubilee flag. Amelia Moras, SCN, vice- provincial cut the ribbon and declared that the golden jubilee year is opened. To mark the opening of the golden jubilee Marianne Puthoor, SCN, the stalwart of Chatra mission and Mr. Sudesh Kumar, vice-chairman of Municipality Corporation of Chatra released a few pigeons.

There was a short and meaningful prayer service to look back with pride and satisfaction for the commitment and dedication of the pioneers namely SCNs Ann Roberta Powers, Rosemarie Lakra, Anne Philip Gnavally.

There was a well-organized colorful cultural program interspersed with speeches by Sisters as well as eminent personalities of the town especially Mr. Sudesh and Mr. Jai Prakash Singh Bhokta, a member of legislative assembly of Jharkhand from Chatra. All the speakers honored the founding members of Chatra mission.

Special honor and gratitude were given to Sister Ann Roberta, who diligently and courageously planted the seed of love and compassion in Chatra through the ministry of education in one of the backward districts of Bihar in 1969.

The program was anchored by teachers Mrs. Maria Jyoti, Mr. Shyamnandan Bhardwaj and two students each from NVN High School and Nazareth School. Susan Tudu, SCN, principal of Nazareth School proposed the vote of thanks and informed the gathering about the inter-school competitions and activities to mark the jubilee year.

SCNs Anne Marie Thayilchirayil, Regina Ekka from Nazareth Academy, Gaya and Maya Amolik from Mandair graced the occasion by their presence.

The staff and students of Nazareth family look forward with joy and hope to make this jubilee year a memorable one.
